~MASTER BEDROOM REMODEL~

-2025-

BACKGROUND:

In order to teach myself how to use rendering software, I undertook a personal project to remodel the master bedroom for a member of my family. I began by declaring the philosophical foundation from which the design would eventually emerge. Then, I created a 3D model in SketchUp and used Enscape to render it from different perspectives and under various lighting conditions.

SYNOPSIS:

Because the house is located in Utah, I wanted the remodel to tell the story of the warm but ancient desert setting. To accomplish this, I based the design on Arches National Park. The color palette reflects the texture and hue of the red sandstone that forms Arches as well as the weathered, green foliage. Wall shelves are arranged to pay homage to Delicate Arch while the cantilevered planter, with its curved form and layered ridges, alludes to how sediment forms into strata.

A bedroom must be a space for rejuvenation of both the body and the soul. The biophilic nature of my design exemplifies this purpose, turning the room into a healing retreat that respects the land it sits upon rather than being a disgrace to its surroundings.

MIDJOURNEY:

To finish off, I inputted my own renderings into Midjourney and had it generate different iterations and alternatives based on my design. Doing this lets me see how the project could look different while maintaining its original essence. All of these images, for instance, have hard wood floors whereas the original has tile, as seen above.
